Golf Holidays at La MAnga Spain: South Course
Originally designed by Robert D Putman, this classic championship course was remodelled in 1992 by Arnold Palmer, who won the La Manga Spanish Open here in 1975. Located in the centre of the valley, with wide palm-fringed fairways and few hidden dangers, the South, whilst being a top-calibre championship course, is enjoyed by golfers of all standards. Many strategically positioned water hazards and bunkers will punish wayward shots. Length 6361 metres, par 72.
The front nine are particularly tough with two par 3s over 200 metres and some daunting par 4's which will require some accurate driving between lakes and bunkers, and long irons or fairway woods to the green.
The back nine although shorter, has a number of tight dog-leg holes and special attention to the par 5 18th, with water on both sides of the fairway and a ravine just short of the green totally surrounded by sand, which will provide a particularly stern finish.
The greens in general are big and straightforward, but the player may often find himself with very long putts.
